How does the legislative process in Texas work? This is a simplified outline of the process. (complete details) 

  1. Bill is filed (introduced) in House or Senate
  2. Assigned to a committee
    1. In the House Crime Stoppers bills will be assigned to the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee
    2. In the Senate Crime Stoppers bills will be assigned to the Committee on Criminal Justice
  3. Out of respective committee
  4. Voted on by House or Senate
  5. Sent to other chamber House or Senate
  6. Out of respective committee
  7. Voted on House or Senate
  8. Governor acts on bill
    1. Sign bill
    2. Veto bill
    3. Becomes law without signature or veto
  9. Bill becomes law
